Guidelines for guests attending meetings of the Institute of Master Tutors of Driving

Invitation

You have been invited to attend a meeting of the IMTD as a guest because the member inviting believes you are a person who has the qualities, experience and knowledge that will potentially enable you to benefit from membership of the institute and that you will also be able to contribute to the aims of the Institute.

History

The Institute of Master Tutors of Driving (IMTD) was founded as a non-profit making independent organisation in 1957. Its aim was to create an elite group of professional driving instructors in the UK. The members were to be principals and managers of reputable driving schools whose entry was to be determined by their integrity, experience, qualifications and professional ability.

Membership

The members are past or present driver trainers and others who are or who have been engaged in an activity akin or related to driving instruction. Many members are or have been officers of local and national driver trainer organisations though they give their own views at the Institute's meetings.

Dress Convention

The Institute does not enforce a dress code however; visitors may feel uncomfortable if they do not conform to the usual conventions of members at meetings. Most gentlemen wear shirts, ties and jackets, ladies similar daywear. Members do not wear denim or sports clothing for meetings.

Meeting Convention

Meetings are run by the chairman of the Institute whose decision on all matters is final. Those present may only speak when invited to do so by the chairman. If you wish to speak you should attract the attention of the chairman who may or may not decide to ask you to speak. As a guest you are not invited to vote on any matters put to the meeting.

Reporting Convention

The purpose of Institute meetings is to allow people to speak as individuals, and to express views that may not necessarily be those of the organisations of which they are members, officers, employees or past employees. Therefore comments made at IMTD meetings can be shared verbally but not attributed to any particular person or organisation. Details of business transacted and debates held at meetings should not be shared with non-members. The only true record of a meeting shall be the secretary’s minute of the meeting approved by the following meeting.

Your Choice

If you do not wish to accept these guidelines please decline the invitation you have received. Attendance at a meeting will be taken that, as an honourable person, you accept and agree to abide by these guidelines.
