The Institute of Master Tutors of Driving (IMTD) was founded as a non-profit
making independent organisation in 1957. Its aim was to create an elite group of
professional driving instructors in the UK. The members were to be principals
and managers of reputable driving schools whose entry was to be determined by
their integrity, experience, qualifications and professional ability.Members
The members are past or present ADIs, and others who are or who have been
engaged in an activity akin or related to driving instruction.
Many members are also officers of local and national driving organisations
though they give their own views at the Institute's meetings.
Those who have the necessary qualifications and can contribute to the aims of
the Institute may be invited to join, or may apply (see the
"Joining The IMTD" page).
On election to the Institute members are given a diploma and are entitled to
style themselves M Inst MTD. A member whose extra contribution to road safety or
to the industry may be elected Fellow (F Inst MTD). Members and Fellows pay an
annual subscription.
Associate membership is available to suitable people who are resident outside
the UK.

These are held four times each year. They provide the
opportunity for members to discuss and exchange views on matters affecting
driver and instructor training and to consider and prepare for future
development in these areas.
The Annual General Meeting is held at the third meeting of the
year. At the AGM a new Executive Committee is elected to office for one year.
